Deh Gah Gotine (“I Am…”): A Celebration of Northern Indigenous Heritage
Presented by Dr. Lois Edge & Camilia Zoe-Chocolate as part of the symposium Reconciliation & Resurgence: Heritage Practice in Post-TRC Edmonton
This project supports Indigenous community-based researchers in documenting cultural heritage of families and communities within the Northwest Territories. The project brings together Dene, Métis, and Inuvialuit researchers from the Bachelor of Education program at Aurora College Thebacha and the Curator of the Northern Life Museum and Cultural Centre (NLMCC) at Fort Smith, NWT.
Indigenous researchers conducted research through intergenerational engagement and sharing lived experiences about their families and communities; and strengthened a deeper level understanding and respect for Indigenous cultural heritage, resurgence and well-being.
The intent of this partnership was to work together as reconciliation in response to the Calls to Action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This collaboration is funded by an Individual Indigenous Research Capacity and Reconciliation Connection Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
