Call for Contractors: Tour Developer

Seeking Local Story Explorers:
Create Walking Adventures Through Edmonton’s Past!

Are you passionate about Edmonton’s diverse history? Can you transform historical research into engaging walking discoveries? The Edmonton City as Museum Project (ECAMP) needs your creative energy!

The Opportunity:

We’re seeking two dynamic tour developers to craft experiences that bring our city’s stories to life. In time for Summer 2025, each tour developer will design one walking adventure that gives attendees an opportunity to learn more about local land, culture, and topics linked to ECAMP’s theme of labour history.

Who We Are:

ECAMP builds community and amplifies stories through interactive, engaging, and participatory experiences. We work with Edmontonians to collect, research, interpret, preserve, and share stories of intangible heritage that tie them to this place, the land, and each other.

This contract would be a good fit if you:

Have experience conducting local historical research.

Are available in May 2025 to lead pilot tours and teach our summer guides.

Have experience building relationships with community organizations.

Have strong writing skills and understand writing for a public audience.

This contract would be a great fit:

If you have written and/or delivered tours before.

If you can demonstrate ability to research local Indigenous and/or labour history topics.

The successful contractor will:

Conduct environmental scan of existing walking tours in Edmonton to find a unique niche and best practices with other tour developer

Develop 2-page tour proposal for ECAMP staff approval and feedback

Conduct background historical research for tours, including images for potential use in program delivery

Ensure content includes Indigenous community members and/or stories.

Write, revise, and test the tour, including planning a tour route and rough map of stopping locations

Consideration of route accessibility and attention to approachability of content

Build relationships where appropriate with partner businesses or community organizations involved in tour implementation

Lead pilot versions of tours (potentially at Jane’s Walk)

Incorporate staff and community feedback into revisions

Teach guides tour content so they can lead the tours going forward

Contract: $4500 each (2 available)

Estimated Hours: 100hrs research, writing, and revising; 20hrs delivery and training
